I don't know about that: Canada and Spain are the only countries (AFAIK) that were devloping any sort of critical mass around the issue.
Along with Holland and Belgium, we're still only talking about four countries in the world with (again, AFAIK) no fifth on the horizon. Most other countries that are expanding their laws seem to be taking the compromise "civil union" stance.
I doubt Ratzinger's too worried.
